Today is the birthday of my youngest daughter… and I cannot believe she's already four years old. It seems like just four years ago she was born. (And having your youngest get so close to going to Kindergarten makes you see time … differently, am I almost old?!?)
So how did I celebrate this 4 year olds first 'four year old' birthday? (like she'll have another four year old birthday party sometime. lol I crack me up)
As I do with most of the children on their birthday, I woke her up singing softly a happy birthday to her, and when she woke she smiled huge and gave me a hug. I think every birthday ought to start with a wake-up like that. Then we sang together for a bit as we casually got everyone ready for school. She was super cuddly and when I whispered that I'd take her to a super secret breakfast after we dropped off the other kids she smiled even bigger and told everyone. (she can be evil at times, in the cutest way) Then … she had that beautiful satisfaction of having a sibling extremely jealous that it wasn't HER birthday.
First thing after dropping off the children we went to a special breakfast where the waitress couldn't have honestly cared less that it was someone's birthday, especially when I ordered just water to drink. Then we picked up DORA THE EXPLORER party stuff, my daughter kept grinning and saying "it's my favorite!" Then we picked up the cake for the Birthday… there are bakeries, that can do a better job than I can do with a cake from scratch… and then there are bakeries that can do 2x better than those bakeries can do… and lucky for my Daughter, I picked one of those bakeries to do her cake. (Birthdays are special)
Parent Teacher Conference
Today was parent teacher conference with ALL of the children's teachers… which was, okay. I generally look at those as a report card for how well I'm helping my children to meet their grade level, and it was generally all great news. The big difference is that my boys were always good in class but the teachers marked them down for not participating more and making their voice heard… and my daughter has NOT got that problem. It's very different to have a girl in school, the boys would come home from school and I'd have to milk them for any information about how their day went… and with girls, I don't have to ask.
Back to Birthday Stuff
I was ready to go home at this point, but that's not what birthdays are for!
She got over her jealous rage btw:
At home I rocked the baby and she got a birthday nap (everyone should have a birthday nap!)
She wanted Macaroni and Cheese for her special dinner, then presents, then CAKE!
She started repeating "That's my favorite!" from beginning to end of the presents to the cake. Overall, I'd say she had a #1 #4 birthday!
