Arizona had a Birthday!
Normally I like to do something special for birthdays, but I didn't have to, my son beat me to it… his entire fourth grade class did.
- Singing “I Love Arizona”
- I made him pose for a picture after the play, he and his cute little cowboy hat!
- It turns out that Arizona was part of the Confederacy. I’m sure they gave other facts about the state… I don’t remember… but I think they mentioned hot and desert’ey at some point too.
- I love that he’s waving at me while doing the square dance!

Headline News ‘Single Father of Four Takes Kids to Ballet’
“What do I think I’m doing?!” is usually the first question I ask myself when the going gets tough. ‘Tough’ is a relative term and by the reaction of every smiling face I passed you’d think I was on my way to be knighted. That’s where the question came from… from one of those smiling faces in the crowd.
“Did you really bring four kids to the ballet all by yourself?” her tone was disbelief mixed with horror. Her tact knew no bounds as she continued. “Are they really all yours?!” as if anyone in their right mind would drag a ‘large’ group of age ten and under kids to a ballet if they didn’t belong to them.
“We can hope.” Was my curt reply, then I hurried the children on to our seats. I’m not sure what the biggest headline is, that I took the kids to the ballet, that they loved it, or that they behaved through the two and a half hours.
The ballet was Sleeping Beauty, and it was pretty incredible. My oldest sat quietly as though in thought. My second oldest asked hushed questions and really got into it, and the girls could barely contain their excited claps to the spaces between dances!
My favorite part was the children’s reaction to fancy ballet moves or sudden changes in what’s on stage. If it were just the chamber orchestra it would have been worth it to me, as it was more than that, I can under exaggerate by saying simply that it was great!
A Surprise in the Bathroom
I stepped into the bathroom only about five minutes after the children had woken up this morning, as I was getting ready to leave the house and found this:
Children Philosophy – Tutu
One of the best parts of being a Father is being able to listen in on the little conversations.
Boy 1: "Bet you want to do that to … to." (totally unrelated subject)
Boy 2: "You want a tutu?"
Boy 1: "I guess."
Boy 2: "Like a ballerina?!?!"
Boy 1: "Sure, I guess they're cool."
Boy 2: "Boys don't wear tutus!"
Boy 1: "I bet that if you were the best fighter in the world you could walk around wearing anything you wanted."
Boy 2: (serious pondering) "You mean like Wolverine?"
Boy 1: "Yeah, Wolverine could wear a tutu and no one would even make fun of him."
